Learning objective: During this course, participants will have the opportunity to learn about Marxan with Zones through a series of hands-on exercises and talks. Participants will learn the differences between Marxan and Marxan with Zones, and how to use this tool to solve a multi-zone planning exercise. Using Marxan with Zones, planners can identify an efficient system of reserve sites and/or any other type of spatial planning systems that include a suite of biodiversity and multiple types of human use targets at a minimal cost. Marxan with Zones is a more powerful nested version of Marxan, one of the most widely used conservation planning tools, as it provides a systematic and repeatable method for designing reserve networks.
